A Brief History

In late 1969, Mrs. Esther M. Frazier, a Dachshund breeder and exhibitor in Vacaville, conceived the idea for an all-breed kennel club in the Solano County area.  There were several 'Purebred Dog Fanciers' in the area.  She began contacting them by telephone and at shows to ascertain their interest in the idea of forming an all-breed club.  Her idea was enthusiastically received.  Notices were placed in area newspapers and the response was gratifying.

Several informal meetings were held in Mrs. Frazier's home in Vacaville and in February 1970, the meeting place was moved to Fairfield, a more central location.  During the next couple of months, a slate of officers was elected, standing committees appointed, a constitution and by-laws adopted, the name "Chief Solano Kennel Club" chosen, and the club insignia approved.

Several "Fun Matches" were held prior to our first "AKC® Sanctioned B Match" which was held in January 1973.  Our 'AKC® Sanctioned A Match' was held several years later.  Our first licensed show was held in April 1978.

Articles of Incorporation were filed in 1974.  The new Articles and By-laws were approved by the American Kennel Club, and we officially became "Chief Solano Kennel Club, Inc.".
